Everyone has their own personal struggle with some sort of mental battles. Whether it be anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or something as "simple" as insecurities and inner struggles within ones self.

For me, anxiety is all I've ever known and it’s something I struggle with everyday. It’s also something I've come to accept, and, at a young age I was lucky enough to identify this battle without shame or fear of judgement. Unfortunately, many people don't have my experience.

As I matured, I realized how looked down upon mental illness is in our society. It’s something that is rarely discussed with a looming stigma. But why is that?

Everyone deals with mental battles. I wish people understood that this is not something you can control. There's no switch to flip. It’s a life long struggle that varies from person to person. I wish mental illness was something everyone was able to discuss freely without shame, guilt or fear of judgement.

If it can't be discussed then how can it be identified and managed? I think a common misconception is that only few people deal with mental illness, when in reality, nearly half of adults have experienced mental illness.
